Bayern win the first leg comfortably, with a 2-0 scoreline to take back to Munich. Goals from Kroos and Muller give Guardiola's side the advantage, despite two missed penalties in the first half. Arsenal were with ten men, looked to have earned a respectable one-goal defeat, but a late goal from Muller has put this tie firmly in German control.
Both sides had missed first-half penalties, with Mesut Ozil missing from the spot for the Gunners and David Alaba failing to convert for Bayern, though Arsenal had goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny sent off for the foul that conceded the Germans' penalty.
Kroos nevertheless struck in the 54th minute to give the defending champions an away goal, before Thomas Muller netted late on to hand them a precious 2-0 lead ahead of the second leg in Germany.
Kroos set Bayern on their way, scoring exactly a year after his last goal against Arsenal in the Champions League, as the Bundesliga leaders were simply too good for the hosts, with the numerical difference helping them out too. A red card for Szczesny changed the same following a positive start from the Gunners, but playing with ten men against Die Roten is never an enviable task.
Lineups

Bayern Munich: Neuer; Lahm, Boateng, Dante, Alaba; Martinez; Robben, Kroos, Thiago, Gotze; Mandzukic
