Germany defender Jerome Boateng believes his side must forget about this summer's World Cup triumph to get back on track.

Joachim Low's side have started their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign slowly over the last two months, dropping points to Poland and the Republic of Ireland.

They face Gibraltar on Friday as they look to record their first win in three and Boateng feels their summer celebrations must be put to one side.

"We need to wake up," he told Bild.

"We have to get the World Cup feelings out of our heads.

"It is important to play hard and win in the coming year. Then every oppoent will recognise again that we are Germany, the world champions."

Germany and Gibraltar clash at 20:45CET in Nurnberg on Friday.
